20th Aug - Weeding on Reforestation Plot at Lower Peirce

What is it all about?

A relatively new reforestation plot, the saplings on the "CasuarinaPlot" are still too young to have crowns large enough to shade thesun-loving weeds out. Enthusiastic muscles are therefore needed todestroy the underground network of the aggressive weed known asSmilax- a spiny vicious looking climber that has been smothering someof our trees near the forest edges.

Time: 20th Aug, Sat, 9am – 12noon

What to bring?

If you are coming, please be prepared to work in the open field under the sun·

  • Wear long pants (unless you want to have scar-marks on your legs??!!!),
  • Long-sleeves shirt (strongly recommended),
  • Covered shoes (you will be walking among leaf litters at times)
  • Enough water,
  • Insect repellant(optional),
  • Sunblock (optional).

Note: Do have a full breakfast first.

Where to meet?

Meet at NP, Blk 1 at 8.00am.
Transport to and fro from NP to Lower pierce will be provided.
If you are interested, please contact us before 15th Aug, Mon to allow us to make the necessary arrangements.

7th Aug - Free guided tour at Bukit Timah Nature reserve

Let a guide really show you the forest! Going on a tour with a volunteer guide is the best way to see and learn more about this special forest. The walk takes you along the short South View trail for a quick introduction to the rainforest. You will learn more about the amazing plant life in a rainforest and how everything fits remarkably together. If you are lucky, you might spot the noisy Drongo with its flashy tail, or even some of the more elusive animals such as the Flying lemur. The trail goes mostly uphill with steps cut into the ground.

Time : Sunday, 7th Aug , 4pm
